Most of the best Boxing Day deals in 2025 went live before Boxing Day. Argos said its winter sale started on 17 December. Selfridges was in sale by the morning of 23 December. Boots, Next, John Lewis, M&S and Dunelm had online sales running on Christmas Eve. Currys and JD Sports were the two large retailers here first seen with sale messaging on 26 December. No retailer below had announced a 2026 sale when this page was updated on 16 October 2026.

The headlines looked alike: “up to 50% off” on selected lines was the most common claim. The real differences were in timing, in which categories were cut deeply, and in how far the sales went in January.

“First seen” times come from archived homepage captures. A capture shows the sale was live at that moment; it does not prove the exact launch. “Announced” rows quote the retailer’s own stated schedule. The go-live times guide sets out the timing evidence in more detail.

Which categories were actually cut

A headline of “up to 50%” tells you the maximum, not the typical reduction. Individual product captures from the 2025 sale show how much the depth varied by category:

ProductRetailer and dateSale priceStated was-priceReduction
Reiss Merit cotton-blend shirtNext, 26 Dec£68£12043%
Zip Front Puffer JacketJohn Lewis, 30 Dec£39.50£7950%

Hisense 65-inch E7Q QLED TVCurrys, 28 Dec£499£59917%
Samsung 75-inch Q7F QLED TVCurrys, 27 Dec£949£9995%

Eight Currys TV listings captured on 27 and 28 December 2025 ranged from 5% to 29% below their stated was-price. Two clothing lines were cut by 43% and 50%. That is a small sample of single products, not a survey of each category. It still shows that a TV at a quarter off was a strong result in 2025, while half price on clothing was common. Each was-price is the retailer’s own figure; CAP’s guidance on savings claims explains what a fair reference price should be.

The TV deals page, laptop deals page and fashion deals page cover how to compare exact models and sizes in those categories.

Online first, stores later

Several 2025 sales reached stores after they started online. Next stores opened their sale at 6am on 27 December, a day after Boxing Day. John Lewis’s shops started on 27 December. Boots stores started on 26 December, two days after its website. Drapers reported that most M&S stores were closed on Boxing Day 2025, while Matalan stores opened from 9am to 6pm by default.

Currys and Selfridges both published Boxing Day store hours. Currys stores opened from 9am. All four Selfridges stores opened at 9am, and London traded until 9pm. The opening hours guide has the full list of retailers with checked hours.

Check returns before you buy in the sale

Christmas return extensions often stop before Boxing Day. In 2025, Dunelm’s extended returns covered purchases up to 24 December only, so Boxing Day sale purchases had the standard 28 days. Matalan’s extension also covered purchases from 1 October to 24 December. Selfridges sale items bought in store could be returned within 14 days for an exchange or a gift card, not a refund.

Check the returns terms on the receipt date, not the gift-season headline. The retailer pages linked in the table record each policy with its source.

January cuts went deeper, on what was left

In 2025 the headline claims grew after Christmas. M&S went from up to 50% to up to 70% by 6 January. River Island reached up to 60% by 30 December. Selfridges showed “Further reductions: up to 60% off” by 2 January. Matalan advertised final reductions of up to 70% by 17 January.

Those larger figures applied to lines that were still in stock. This site has no record of which sizes or models remained. If you need a specific item, the earlier sale gives you more choice; if you are flexible, the later reductions were larger. The January sales page covers the post-Christmas round.

What not to expect

  • A 2026 date yet. No retailer here had announced its 2026 sale on 16 October 2026. Do not plan around last year’s times as if they were confirmed.
  • The headline on every product. “Up to” is a ceiling. The Samsung TV above was 5% off in the same sale that carried bigger headlines elsewhere.
  • A Boxing Day sale at Amazon. Its UK homepage showed no named Boxing Day event in 2025.
  • A percentage at Currys. Its 2025 Boxing Day homepage promoted manufacturer cashback and trade-in offers, not a site-wide discount.
