Sainsbury's Boxing Day Opening Hours 2026

Sainsbury’s supermarkets are listed to open 9am to 6pm on Boxing Day 2026. That is what its own store data showed for 601 of 615 supermarkets when this page checked it on 22 October 2026. Christmas Day is listed as closed at every one. Sainsbury’s has made no national announcement and can still change branch hours, so check your store in the Sainsbury’s store locator nearer the day.

Christmas 2026 hours in Sainsbury’s store data

The store locator reads each branch’s hours from Sainsbury’s own store data. On 22 October 2026, this page read the holiday hours listed for all 619 supermarket entries in that store data. Four entries were not shops and had no hours, leaving 615. Each store’s own page shows its listing; the exceptions below link to theirs.

Day	Hours listed	Supermarkets
Christmas Eve, Thursday 24 December 2026	6am – 7pm	567 of 615
Christmas Day, Friday 25 December 2026	Closed	615 of 615
Boxing Day, Saturday 26 December 2026	9am – 6pm	601 of 615

Most Christmas Eve exceptions were listed to open at 7am or 8am. The 14 Boxing Day exceptions were:

Supermarket	Boxing Day 2026 hours listed
Kingswood, Dingles and Clifton Down in Bristol; Plymouth; Cardiff, CF10; Ross-on-Wye	Closed
White Rose, Leeds	8:30am – 7:30pm
Holborn, London	9am – 9pm
Whitecroft Road Local, Shrewsbury	9am – 9pm
Folkestone; Bexleyheath	10am – 6pm
Lewisham, London	10:30am – 5pm
Camberley	10:30am – 4:30pm
Chatham	10am – 4pm

The figures cover Sainsbury’s supermarkets in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. They include two supermarkets branded as Local (Holborn and Whitecroft Road), but not Sainsbury’s separate Local convenience shops, which keep their own hours. To see one branch’s listing, open its store page, for example Forest Hill.

Boxing Day 2025, for comparison

Archived copies of the same store data show the 2025 pattern. Five supermarkets checked, in London, Kettering and Market Harborough, were listed 9am to 6pm for Boxing Day 2025 and closed on Christmas Day:

Supermarket	Friday 26 December 2025	Source
Forest Hill, London SE23	9am – 6pm	Store data, captured 26 Dec 2025
Merton, London SW19	9am – 6pm	Store data, captured 14 Dec 2025
Burton Latimer, Kettering	9am – 6pm	Store data, captured 26 Dec 2025
Kettering; Market Harborough	9am – 6pm	Store list, captured 26 Dec 2025

In the same 2025 capture, the Local convenience shops, such as Corby Weldon Park, were listed 9am to 9pm. A small 2025 sample cannot show the whole estate, which is why the 2026 table above matters more.

Is there a Sainsbury’s Boxing Day sale?

Sainsbury’s sale is Tu clothing’s end-of-season sale, and in 2025 it started before Christmas, not on Boxing Day:

What	2025 record	Source
Before the sale	No sale banner on the Tu page captured 15 December	Tu, captured 15 Dec 2025
Sale live	“Up to 50% off Sale!” on 17 December	Tu, captured 17 Dec 2025
Online and in store	Sainsbury’s homepage: “Tu clothing end of season sale. Online and in-store.”	Sainsbury’s homepage, captured 23 Dec 2025
Still running	Tu homepage on 5 January 2026	Tu, captured 5 Jan 2026
2026 sale	Not announced (checked 22 October 2026)	—

“Up to 50%” is Tu’s own headline for selected lines. By 27 December 2025, the Sainsbury’s homepage also promoted an Argos offer; that is covered on the Argos page.

Planning a Boxing Day trip

In 2025, the Morrisons stores checked listed 9am to 6pm, while Aldi closed every store and Lidl closed its stores in Wales and in England outside the M25. The Boxing Day opening hours guide compares the Boxing Day hours this site has verified, retailer by retailer.
